Privacy policy
This policy covers the SARTrack software made by SARTrack Limited, New Zealand: the SARTrack Terminal, the SARTrack Database Server and your organisation's SARTrack web site. It also covers our e-mail lists and this web site. The SARTrack Android App has its own privacy policy.
The short version
- Your organisation's data belongs to your organisation, and only your organisation can see it.
- SARTrack Limited never sells your data, and does not share it with third parties, except as described below.
- There are no advertisements and no analytics, in the software or on this web site.
Your organisation's data
SARTrack holds what your organisation puts into it: its Personnel, Operations, Log entries, Teams, Tasks, positions, messages, Clues and photos. All of it is stored on your organisation's SARTrack Database Server. This is either your organisation's own computer, or an Internet Server that SARTrack Limited runs for your organisation.
- Each organisation sees only its own data.
- Your organisation decides who in the organisation can see the data, and how long it keeps it.
- All connections between SARTrack, the Servers, the App and the web site are encrypted.
- The data files on the Servers are stored encrypted.
- The SARTrack Internet Servers are in New Zealand. Organisations in Europe can use a SARTrack Server in Germany.
- SARTrack Limited uses the data on its Internet Servers only to run the Servers for your organisation, and to help your organisation when it asks for support. It does not use the data for anything else.
New Zealand: the National Database
New Zealand SARTrack users who have joined the New Zealand National Database agree that their details can be loaded by LandSAR or AREC groups. This is only done to assign them to a Search and Rescue Operation of that group. This data stays within the SARTrack system, and is removed from the Operation when the Operation is closed. It is not shared in any other way.
Registration and bug reports
- When SARTrack is first installed, it asks for your name, organisation and e-mail address, and the computer's name. These go to SARTrack Limited, and are used only for licences, callsigns and support.
- When you send a bug report from SARTrack's Debug window, the report goes to SARTrack Limited. It is used only to find and fix the problem.
The SARTrack e-mail lists
SARTrack Limited runs e-mail lists, only to tell SARTrack users about changes and issues in the software. The e-mail addresses on these lists cannot be seen from outside. When a member posts to a list, all other members of that list see the member's e-mail address. You can leave a list at any time.
This web site
This web site (sartrack.nz) uses no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Like every web server, it keeps a standard access log (the address of your computer, the page and the time). This log is used only for security and to find faults.
Your rights
Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, you can ask for access to your personal information, and for it to be corrected. For data in your organisation's SARTrack, please ask your organisation first, as it manages that data. For anything else, or if you need help, please contact SARTrack Limited.
